Elite Diving, a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) centre located in the heart of the Red Sea, is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year. Over the past two decades, the centre has become renowned for delivering top-notch diving experiences, personalized customer service, and fostering a deep passion for the underwater world.
Elite Diving's Journey and BSAC Roots
Alun Evans, the founder of Elite Diving, began his journey with BSAC in 1984. Starting as a novice diver, he advanced through the ranks to become an Open Water Instructor (OWI) and later, an Explorer Mixed Gas Instructor. After losing his job at the age of 46 in 2002, he relocated to Sharm to take a break and explore opportunities in the recreational diving industry.
Having visited Sharm multiple times on club and individual trips, Evans had already fallen in love with the area's stunning coral reefs and rich marine life. He initially worked for a local dive centre for three years before establishing Elite Diving with his wife, Moyra, in 2005. The couple expanded their operations in 2008 by acquiring Divers United, further cementing Elite Diving's presence in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Reflecting on the centre's 20th anniversary, Evans said, "Over the years we have certified more than 500 BSAC divers, from Ocean Diver to Dive Leader. We have built a very experienced team of dive professionals and they are also selected for their enthusiasm and love of the underwater realm. It's also their passion! Here's to another successful 20 years."
The Elite Diving team dives the Thistlegorm wreck almost weekly, including every year on the anniversary of its sinking. On the 75th Anniversary, divers placed a biodegradable poppy wreath on the ship, assisted by two ex-Royal Naval personnel. "We usually get approximately 26 people each year dive on her for her anniversary. It's also my birthday, so as it's my favorite dive, it's a double whammy!" Evans explained.
While safety is the team's top priority at Elite Diving, customer service and fun are also integral to their operations.
