Capsalidea [Capsalidea]
Description
Capsalidea is comprised of flatworms often referred to as 'monogenean flukes'. Members of this order are primarily ectoparasites of marine fish, attaching to the skin, gills, or external surfaces. They are characterized by their unique haptor, a specialized attachment organ, which allows them to cling onto their hosts. These parasites have direct life cycles, meaning they do not require an intermediate host to complete their development. Capsalidea species are known for their significant impact on aquaculture, causing disease in commercially important fish species.
